Home › Where to find help
Colour & Craft is no longer trading, so this site cannot put you in touch with a painter, decorator or builder itself. These are independent, established UK organisations that can help instead — for finding someone vetted, for sorting out a dispute, or for staying safe on an older property.
Finding and checking a tradesperson
- TrustMark — the government-endorsed register of vetted tradespeople for home improvement work, with a consumer protection scheme behind it.
- Which? Trusted Traders — Which?'s own directory of tradespeople assessed against its standards, with verified customer reviews.
- Painting & Decorating Association — the UK trade body for professional painters and decorators, with a directory of accredited members.
- Federation of Master Builders — the trade association for builders and related trades, whose members are vetted and have their work inspected.
Electrical and gas work
A refurbishment often touches wiring or plumbing that a decorator can't sign off — these are the bodies that certify that work separately.
- NICEIC — the UK's largest certification body for electricians, with a directory of certified electrical businesses.
If work has gone wrong, or you're planning a project on an older home
- Citizens Advice — free, independent guidance on what to do if building or decorating work is substandard, or a dispute comes up with a contractor.
- Health and Safety Executive — lead — official guidance on the risks of lead in old paintwork, relevant to anyone stripping or sanding paint on a pre-1960s property.
This list is provided for reference only; Colour & Craft has no ongoing relationship with any of these organisations.
